I woke up this morning (after a somewhat restless night of sleep) with one thought: we need a card box for the wedding! Now I know this is totally crazy and totally unnecessary, but these are the kinds of things I think about when I can't sleep. I mean, otherwise, won't all of the cards get lost? That's the rumor on the wedding circuit and blogosphere--these days, you need a card box to keep everything safe. So, instead of killing myself and spending 6 hours creating the perfect card box (or spending a bunch of money buying one), I pulled out a few supplies and whipped one together in about 30 minutes this morning. It's no work of art and it's not quite up to my usual personal quality standards, but I think it will do the job. So, for anyone who needs to pull together a quick and easy DIY Card Box, here's how to do it. It was SUPER easy... Step 1: Find an old cardboard box. I made sure it was deep enough to put a card in (checked using a few cards that we've received thus far), and then cut a hole in the top a little bit bigger than your average card. I then taped the box closed really well, so that it won't fall apart on it's way to GA. Step 2: Pick out some paper that matches your wedding or event color scheme. I had a bunch of scraps lying around from the Cake Topper that I made a few weeks ago, so I used that. Then, I measured out the paper and cut it down to fit each side of the box. I used a different color/pattern for each side, but you could easily cover the entire box in the same paper. Step 3: Glue down all of the paper, ensuring that you double-check the edges and that all sides and spaces on your box are completely covered. It's best if you use card stock or pretty thick paper so that it doesn't get rumply when you glue it down. Step 4: Add some flare/decor! I cut out part of our invitation (the tree image) and glued it down, and also lined the edges with some burlap ribbon (used a glue gun to attach it), which helped to cover up the "seams" between the different pieces of paper. I also created a label with a sweet little drawing on it. You can do whatever you want here, or leave it completely plain if you want something more simple. Step 5: Let everything dry, and voila! Your very own DIY card box. Sure, it looks VERY handmade, but isn't that the point sometimes? And really, who wants to spend 6 hours on something that people will look at for 2 seconds and then forget about? Not me. Today is my final wedding planning/packing day, since I leave tomorrow for ATL. Ben will be driving down early next week with all of our supplies (thank goodness!), so I have my work cut out for me getting everything put together before I leave. Please just look at the current state of our living room: This is what the week before a wedding looks like ;)
I hope you have a fabulously creative day! Namaste, Mary Catherine Comments are closed.
