It's the last installment of my 'Holiday Commissions Revealed' series! In Part 1, I shared the pet portraits that I created for one-of-a-kind holiday gifts, in Part 2 I shared the "family sketches" that were ordered by fabulous readers like yourself, and now, in the grand finale, I'm breaking down the creation process of the two watercolor "house portraits" above. I've included a little backstory about each painting below, along with glimpses into the various stages of creation + the final version, of course... Painting #1: New house painting from a daughter to her parents The commissioner's parents just had this house (their dream house!) built and got a new puppy, so she wanted to commemorate both events with this painting. The puppy is small (because it's a puppy!), but you can just spot it peeking out from the walkway in the final version ;) As you'll see, I started with a sketch of the house and sent that over to the client to make sure she was happy with the composition before starting in on the watercolor. From there, it's just a slow process of adding paint, layering, and adding more paint... Painting #2: First house painting from a wife to her husband The commissioner and her husband bought this house--their very first home--just a week before they got married in 2014. As a special holiday gift for her husband she asked me to paint this watercolor of their house and include their three adorable pets (Charlie, Jack, and Coco) and their dogs' favorite toy, the "chuck-it." We also added "Established 2014" to commemorate when they purchased the house. Again, you can view the slow and steady painting process below... And that's it for my 2015 holiday season commissions! Next up? Recent logos + Valentine's Day commissions (but you'll have to wait until after Valentine's Day to see those!).
