When I moved to Cape Cod and started looking for new yoga studios, teachers, and communities, I looked in one place and one place only--on the interwebs.
I did my research and I did it thoroughly. I looked at class schedules online, I mapped out locations on google maps, I read teacher bios, I visited teacher websites, I looked at the [few] Cape Cod-based blogs, and by the end of my internet search, I had a pretty good picture of the Cape Cod yoga scene--without ever having left the comfort of my couch. I know this sounds super obvious, but I feel like it's worth saying because so many wonderful studios, teachers, trainers, instructors, and coaches just don't have it: If you want people to be able to find you, you need a website, a blog, or an online presence of some sort!!! If you don't care about being online and are 100% content with where you are--and you aren't trying to reach more people with your teachings or your message--that's totally fine, keep doing what you're doing. But, if you want to connect with a wider audience, if you want to build a larger community of like-minded people, if you want to help or teach more individuals (from all over the world!), you simply must go online. There's no other way to do it. So, here are 5 basic, straightforward ways to grow your online presence: 1. Get active on social media--now. If you are not at least moderately active on 1-2 social media sites, get on it. Seriously. This is how we connect now, so if you want to connect with people, start here. Choose at least 1-2 outlets that resonate with you/work for you, and use them on a daily basis. Need help with this? One word: Hootsuite. 2. Start a website. This takes a lot more time and energy than tip #1, but its 100% effective. Either pay someone to make one for you, or make it yourself. There are many easy online website creators that don't take any html knowledge (if you don't know what that means, don't worry, you don't need to). Check out Squarespace, Weebly, or Wordpress. 3. Start a blog. A step further, but way, way worth it. I can't say enough about how amazing blogs are for getting your message out and reaching your peeps. Again, all of the above website creators also host blogs (drag and drop, user-friendly interface), so you can't use "I don't know how" as an excuse. Now, whether or not you have the time, energy, and follow-through to write a blog is a different story, but that's something that only you can determine... 4. Make yourself/your products available. Open on online shop, start a YouTube channel, or begin sharing audio recordings via a podcast. Put yourself out there so that people who want to know more/learn more/hear more can do so in more than one way. If you have something to sell, sell it online! People simply will not find it otherwise. 5. Take my upcoming live e-course! [You had to know that was coming, right?] If you're a yoga teacher, pilates or barre teacher, spin instructor, trainer, dance teacher, CrossFit coach, or any other fitness instructor (or aspiring fitness instructor/teacher-in-training!), you can sign up to take my January e-course geared towards people like you. This course will cover how to do all of the items listed above, in much, much more detail :) There are 3 spaces left and the course starts in January. You can read all about it and sign up online here. If you can't make the e-course work, I can also help you build/tweak/improve your online presence through one-on-one consulting sessions. Read more and book a session here. Hope to see you blossoming online soon!
