Over the weekend, I had a lot of half-formed thoughts that I didn't know what to do with. I would think of something, think, "Hmmm, I should write a blog post about this!" and then, after thinking about it a bit longer, would decide, "No, I don't think that could be a full post, but it is kind of interesting..."
Basically, they were partially-formed observations about life that may or may not be worth anything, but I still want to address them here today. THOUGHT #1: Ben and I raked our new lawn this weekend. It was the first time that we've ever raked together (so romantic, I know!), and it was really weird, because it made me feel much more like an adult than ever before (even more than the mantlepiece did!). I have a deeper thought about this, but first, I'd like to say that raking is HARD! Where the heck did all those leaves come from? And then the next day, when we woke up, the lawn was already covered with more! Geez louise. That being said, while we were raking, I turned to Ben and said, "When I was a freshman in college, if someone had shown me a picture or a video of this scene--of us raking a front yard together in Cape Cod--and told me that it was an image of my future, I would have laughed in his or her face. I never would have believed it." It's funny how life works, how things change, how our journeys take us on such unexpected twists and turns, isn't it? I'm so glad that we can't predict the future, as it's much more fun and interesting this way. THOUGHT #2: On Friday night, we went to watch a friend perform in a local play at the Harwich Junior Theatre. I LOVE going to plays, musicals, and of course, Broadway (when I lived in NYC), and although this local show was very different, it was still very fun. However, I'm not here to offer a review of the local theatre scene, but instead, want to share my main takeaway from this event: People who are auditioning for roles in local theatre productions and performing on local stages, GO YOU! So fabulous! Why aren't we all trying out for local productions and challenging ourselves in this way? What a great way to put yourself out there and get in touch with your creative side! Ben has decided that he might take acting lessons on the Cape, and I just might join him...We both love the idea of performing, so why not get involved in the local community theatre? This never would have crossed my mind in DC, so I think it might be another benefit of living in a small town. Who knew? THOUGHT #3 [This is the most simple one]: The ocean actually does exist in the winter. I honestly think that I never realized that it did--I thought it was just a summer thing--but if you walk to the beach on a cold, winter day, wearing a coat, hat, and gloves, there it is, just waiting for you. It's almost more serene this time of year, because it's so empty, so quiet, so grey, and so powerful. I swear, one look at the water and all of your worries just float away. I guess that's all, just wanted to share these things with you. Happy Monday!

MC! It's great to read your thoughts... so full of wonder and curiosity - so beautifully you. And I wanted to say that I love the ocean in winter! So peaceful and calm - so huge and, as you wrote, "just waiting for you". xoxo 11/20/2013 03:12:52 am
I love these thoughts, especially the first one. Thanks for sharing. Comments are closed.
