The loss of a pet is such a hard, sad thing to process. Ben and I can't even talk about life without Sayde--it's too unbearable to even think about--so I can't imagine what it must be like when it actually happens. As as artist who has fallen into painting pet portraits, I've been really touched by all of the people who commission Memorial Pet Portraits for their loved ones. It think it's an incredibly sweet way to remember such an important member of a family, and I am always honored to be asked to bring these kinds of projects to life. So today, two quick and quite different examples of how recent commissioners chose to remember their friends' pets... Painting Above: Zoot Elizabeth commissioned this painting as a gift for a dear friend and her husband who recently lost their sweet little cat, Zoot. At the time that she commissioned the painting, they were hunting for a new house, so Elizabeth thought it would be the perfect gift to give them once they moved. From what I understand, Zoot had *quite* the personality, so my goal was to try and capture that in the painting (she provided a pic where Zoot's tongue was sticking out like this, can you stand it?!). Drawing Below: Bubbles James commissioned this drawing for his hair stylist who recently lost his adorable sidekick, Bubbles. His hair stylist had traveled to Thailand to do hair for James' wedding, but had to cut the trip short after Bubbles got sick (so heartbreaking). It sounds like Bubbles was quite the companion, which I think you can tell by the image of him sitting in the hairdressers' chair, waiting for a treat... Thank goodness for all of the incredible pets who come into our lives and change us, teach us, love us, and give us a chance to love unconditionally. What a gift!
