The thing that impresses me most about Santin's work is the detail, and here's why: I've spent the past couple of months painting dresses. They're very small (paper is 6" x 9"!), but many of the dresses are patterned and have intricate details. I've found that painting even these tiny little patterned dresses can be challenging, tedious, at times, and getting the exact detail correct, including wrinkles, pleats, and shadows, can be difficult.
So can you imagine painting one of these crazy patterned rugs? With the form of a body underneath? OMG, so amazing. And FYI, most of these paintings are at least a couple of feet wide--if not way bigger.
