You can probably tell that I'm a little excited today, and that's because after I take a yoga class, do a little work, and then teach my noon class, Ben, his friend Bobby, and I are hightailing it down to Charlottesville, VA for one of the most intense and fun CrossFit competitions of the year, the SuperFit Games (you can read about our adventures at SuperFit last year here). Although it's extremely nerve-wracking to watch Ben compete, I look forward to this weekend every year because it's just such an exciting time, and because it just makes Ben SO happy.
So anyways, before I get ready to head out, I wanted to share my simple, sensory joys of the week with you. What were your SJOTW from the past 7 days? Mine are below...
HEAR: "Chains" by Abigail Washburn
I've been loving Abigail Washburn this week. My Dad gave me on of her albums years ago, and for some reason, I never listened to it until now (which is really silly because she's amazing!). You can listen to one of my favorite songs from her album, City of Refuge, below. I've also added this song to my new February playlist, so you may here it in class ;)
SEE: A Pep Talk from Kid President to You
I'm sure many of you have already seen this "pep talk," which has been circulating on social media this week, but if you haven't, please watch it below. It WILL make you smile. I absolutely love it. Such a beautiful, positive message delivered in a really great way by a really great kid ;)
TASTE: Whole Foods Coconut Popsicles
My new treat of choice. Since giving up desserts for January (which just ended, crazy enough!? Yay!), I decided to pick out some new "treats." I didn't feel like mostly-fruit popsicles counted as a dessert (at least, they don't for me, as what I was trying to stay away from was all of the cookies, baked goods, and chocolate), so I've been allowing myself to enjoy a Coconut Pop every once in a while. And they're delicious.
SMELL: Homemade Caesar Salad Dressing
As I know I've mentioned before, Ben is the master at making homemade salad dressing. Our next business is TOTALLY going to be packaging up his dressing and selling it ("Belly-toBelly Dressings," remember?). But, until then, I'll continue enjoying his delicious dressings at home, whenever he decides to make them as a special treat. This past week he made some AMAZING homemade Caesar Salad Dressing (his mom's recipe!) and it was simply divine. I felt like I tasted the garlic for days, but it was definitely worth it ;)
TOUCH: New Pillows
We've been needing new pillows forever, and last weekend we finally went and got some. OMG, they make SUCH a big difference!? It's amazing how much of an impact a comfortable bed can make. My pillow of choice? "Extra-firm for side sleepers." Perfect.
I hope that your week was full of simple joys. Here's to a wonderful weekend for all (and wish Ben luck!)!
Namaste,
Mary Catherine
